Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day! (ok, I know it's a little late, but I mean it all the same!). Anyway, Valentine's was a great day. After I picked Bre up from daycare, we headed home to play with her Valentine's Day present from mommy. I got her crayons and sidewalk chalk. Bre loves to be outside, so we went out and made Max a Valentine's greeting on the sidewalk. I did most of the coloring, but Bre added her own touches here and there. Mostly she just walked around with chalk in both hands, and periodically erased what I had written with her bottom. After Max got home he gave Bre her present, which was two new movies (Veggie Tales and Backyardigans--sp???). After that, Max and I got a chance to go out and spend some quality time together. Those times are so few and far between now! Max's mom came over to watch Bre for the evening and Max and I were off for a night on the town! First we exchanged gifts--we got each other the exact same gift--the movie "Tyler Perry's-Why Did I Get Married?" (We kind of think alike!) After that, we went to Dallas and had a nice dinner at the House of Blues. The food was great and the atmosphere was really nice. After that we went to the movies and watched "Definitely, Maybe." It was a chick flick, but we both really enjoyed it. By the time the movie was over, we were both tired, so we headed home. We aren't the most exciting people anymore!

1-year Photos

I took Breanna to get her 1-year photos done last Saturday. Boy was that an experience like none other! I've had her pictures taken in the past at 3 months, 6 months, and 8 months, but those times were nothing like this time! Bre is very mobile now, unlike the last 3 times. Let's just say, getting her to sit for a picture was not the easiest task! She would barely stay in one spot for longer than 5 seconds. We got some great pictures though! Here are a few:

First Birthday Party!

We had Bre's first birthday party this past Saturday (January 19th, one day after her actual birthday). We had a family and a few friends over for a small party to celebrate Bre's first year! It was a great time and Bre soaked up all the attention. I was so excited because we had a small cake just for Bre to dig into and have fun with. Well, up to this point, she has never had any sweets, except for fruit and a few bites of ice cream. So this was her first "sweet." I thought for sure she would tear into the cake and have cake and icing all over her face, in her hair, etc. However, that was not the case. Breanna was the cleanest 1 year old with cake you have ever seen. She grabbed one fist full (with help from mommy) and that was it. After that all she wanted was a drink and to get all the "stuff" off over her hands. (She hates to have messy hands. When she gets anything on her hands she is generally trying to figure out how to get it off.) Could this mean my child is going to be a neat freak??? I was a little disappointed that she didn't have more fun with the cake, but I guess I should be happy that she prefers veggies and fruit to cake and desserts (except of course, ice cream, that she would never ever turn down)! Here are a few pics from the party:The birthday cake's.

"Ooooh, what's inside here?"

"Wow, my first boombox!"

"Okay, how do I get this stuff off my hands?"

"Wow! That stuff is sweet!"

"Ahhhhhh!"

Happy 1st Birthday Bre!

Wow! I can't believe my little angel is a year old today. Today comes with mixed feelings on my part. On one hand I am so proud of my little girl and excited for all the new things she is discovering and learning. On the other hand, I am sad to see that my baby is isn't going to be a "baby" much longer. She is getting so big and growing up so fast. This past year has been one heck of a ride and I wouldn't change a minute of it! Breanna has been the best thing that has ever happened to our little family up to this point. She is the light of our lives. Her smile and giggle can light up a room. She has become so independent in the past month or so. I cherish each moment she allows me to cuddle with her and love on her.

We went to the doctor today for Bre's 1 year check-up. She weighs 25 lbs, 6oz (90%) and was 30.5 inches tall (90%). She took her shots like a champ. Barely even cried! What a brave little girl I have.

Here are some of Bre's "FIRSTS" over the past year:
Smile: 6 weeks ( the real smile, not gas!)
Slept through the night: 8 weeks (6 hours)
Laughed: 11 weeks
Held a bottle: 4 months
Rolled over: 4 months
Sat unsupported: 5 months
Crawled: 7 months (army), 9 months (all four's)
Stood up: 7 months
Took first step with help: 7 months
Took first step alone: 10 months
Waved "bye-bye": 6 months
Said "mama": 7 months
Said "dada": 5 months
Walked: 10 months
Held a cup: 8 months
Ate solid foods: 4 months

So this has been a year of discovery (for all of us!). Bre is learning about the world and discovering all new things. Max and I are learning that parenting is not an easy job. It takes patience, lots of love, communication, understanding, the ability to know when to ask for help, the knowledge that there aren't always answers to your questions and sometimes you just have to go with your gut, time management, and most importantly faith that God has prepared you for the task ahead. We look forward to the next year of Bre's life and all that it has in store for our family!
